Well, the company has once again hinted at the change by this support document containing reference to the new naming convention alongside software pillars iOS, tvOS and watchOS, as shown by an iTunes developer resource page
The naming conversion would make sense and fall inline with the other names that the company currently uses for its operating systems (iOS, tvOS, and watchOS).
Update: Apple has updated the page to change “macOS” to “OS X.”
