Are you storing some of your files in iCloud and noticed a circle with a down arrow next to the folder name?  Putting the mouse over this icon has an option that says Keep Downloaded?  What does that mean?

I did a Google search, and here’s what it said:

On a Mac, “Keep Downloaded” in the context of iCloud Drive means ensuring that a specific file or folder remains downloaded and available locally on your Mac, even if it’s an older item and more storage space is needed.

Here’s a more detailed explanation:
    • Purpose:
This feature allows you to choose which iCloud Drive files and folders you want to keep permanently stored on your Mac, even if you’re running low on space.
    • How it works:
When you select “Keep Downloaded” for a file or folder, it will be downloaded to your Mac and remain there, regardless of whether you have space constraints or not.
  • Visual Indicator:
The Keep Downloaded icon will appear next to the item’s name in Finder to indicate that it is being kept downloaded.
  • How to Use:
  • Open a Finder window and navigate to iCloud Drive in the sidebar.
  • Control-click the items you want to keep downloaded, then choose “Keep Downloaded”.
  • Note:
You can select up to 10 files at a time to mark as “Keep Downloaded”.
