According to the Tweet:

We want everyone to have a safe experience on Twitter.

A PNGs were fun, but they don’t respect autoplay settings, so we’re removing the ability to add them to Tweets. This is for the safety of people with sensitivity to motion and flashing imagery, including those with epilepsy.

Some persons with the condition are very sensitive to things such as blinking lights and some sounds.  Disney issued a warning about the new Star Wars film, “The Rise of Skywalker” before the movie hit theaters on December 20th.

The change is effective immediately.
