The idea of someone dictating a letter to a computer is not new.  For those of us who remember watching Star Trek or the original Battlestar Galactica, we remember the characters talking to a computer and having it type what ever the person said.  For those who use Windows, they can purchase a program called Dragon Dictate.

Macs come with the ability for a user to talk to the computer out of the box.  Enabling this feature is simple:

1.  Click Apple > System Preferences.
2.  Select the Dictation & Speech icon.
3.  Select the Dictation Tab.
4.  Turn the feature to ON.
5.  At the Shortcut: drop down, select how you want to activate the feature.
6.  You’re all set.

Now, go in to any text editor or even Safari and try it out.
