Although it may seem obvious for those of us who use our Macs all the time, people who are either new to the Mac, or who don’t use it all the time may not be aware of this unique feature.
The idea of someone dictating a letter to a computer is not new. For those of us who remember watching Star Trek or the original Battlestar Galactica, we remember the characters talking to a computer and having it type what ever the person said. For those who use Windows, they can purchase a program called Dragon Dictate.
Macs come with the ability for a user to talk to the computer out of the box. Enabling this feature is simple:
1. Click Apple > System Preferences.
2. Select the Dictation & Speech icon.
3. Select the Dictation Tab.
4. Turn the feature to ON.
5. At the Shortcut: drop down, select how you want to activate the feature.
6. You’re all set.
Now, go in to any text editor or even Safari and try it out.
