RIM announces BlackBerry 10 Hardware and Software

Around 10:15am Eastern, RIM officially announced the long a waited BlackBerry 10 operating system. The event included a product demo, hardware, and availability. The event was video streamed throughout the world but originated in New York City, USA.
– RIM is being renamed “BlackBerry”, effective immediately. The name change will reflect the company’s focus and vision.
– The BB10 is launching on major carriers throughout the world on 650 Carriers in 175 countries. The official launch of the hardware will begin on February 5th.
The BlackBerry App Store is relaunching with music and video content from major music companies and TV Networks. The store currently has over 70,000 BlackBerry 10 ready apps.
– Two new models:
* BlackBerry Q10 – Has a touchscreen interface.
* BlackBerry Z10 – Has a “real keyboard”
The BB Touch Keyboard has the following features:
* Flip to Type – Flip your finger on the screen keyboard to type an email or a BBM.
* Automatic Translation – Automatically translates to different language as you type.
Built in Camera (still and video)
– Tap anywhere on the screen to take photo or video
– On-device photo and video editing
BB Balance:
– Easily move from work to home screens with a flip of a finger.
Long time BB user Alicia Keys has been named BlackBerry Creative Director and will be promoting the platform.
All included cell phone partners are now taking pre-orders for BB10 devices.
