If you’ve been a Mobile Me subscriber and have upgraded to iCloud, some of your information may have doubles (such as Calendar Events, Contacts, etc.)  Before pulling your hair out, try this first:

1.  Go into Calendar -> Preferences -> Accounts.
2.  Delete any references to Mobile Me.

The doubles should now disappear.
