What the hackers did was frightening.  First, the hacker first gained access to the reporter’s iCloud account.  How?  By calling AppleCare, speaking to a representative.  The hacker (posing as the victim) got the rep to give them the password to the main iCloud account.  Afterwards, the hackers proceeded to use iCloud’s find my iPhone feature to remotely wipe, and then disable, the rest of the reporter’s iOS devices.

The reporter has written his account of the events on his blog, which you can read and take your own precautions to protect your accounts (like I am, today!)
