iMessage DDOS Attack Crashes iOS Message Apps

iMessageIconAccording to a developer that goes by the name of iH8sn0w (known for his Jailbreaking tools) and a developer by the name of  Grant Paul, claim that a pair of iMessage attacks shows a security hole in the iMessage app that’s included with all iOS devices.

The attack seems to show a limitation of how many iMessages Apple can handle at one time.

The attack happens when a user sends a lot of text messages (called a flood) that includes normal texts and special characters could crash the iMessage app.

According to Paul:

“What’s happening is a simple flood: Apple doesn’t seem to limit how fast messages can be sent, so the attacker is able to send thousands of messages very quickly,”

To prove their point, iH8sn0w made a simple AppleScript to simulate a user sending a bunch of texts at once – the iMessage app crashed almost every time.

As of this writing, Apple has yet to issue an official response to this newly found problem.
