Ideas on how to teach your child on how to call 9-1-1 (or 9-9-9) | CompuScoop.com

I grew up with firemen and policemen in my family.  So forgive me if I get a little too technical below.

With land lines going by the way of the dinosaur, there’s basically no way for your child to call emergency services for you or someone else except for your cell (mobile) phone.

These tips are for persons who use an iPhone.  But Android does have some of the same features – check your phone’s user’s manual for more information.

All iPhones come with a way for someone to get to 9-1-1 even with a passcode.  On the lower-left corner it says “Emergency“.  Tapping on that will cause the phone to display a countdown.  This countdown is for calling emergency services for your area.

Another way to get emergency services is to ask Siri. Just say “Hey Siri, call 9-1-1” and he/she will call it (by the way, you can do this with any contacts in the contacts app.!)

Bonus tip:

You may have noticed that I’ve been writing 9-1-1 each time I mention it.  There have been situations when calling emergency services was delayed because a child was looking for a button with 911.  Make sure you tell the child to always call 9-1-1 and show them where the buttons are.

Hopefully, your child never has to dial emergency services. But wouldn’t it be nice to know that they could if an emergency develops?
