With the iPhone XS and XS Max, Apple has changed the way end users can reboot the device incase a problem comes up.

Follow these steps:

  • Press the Volume UP button, then release it.
  • Press the Volume DOWN button, then release it.
  • Press and hold down the Power / Lock button on the right side of iPhone XS Max, iPhone XS, iPhone XR.
  • Keep holding those buttons until you see the Apple Logo () on the screen.
  • Release those buttons.
  • That’s it.

Hopefully, you won’t have to do this too often, but it’s nice to know how when a problem pops up.
