How to use AirPlay with Apple TV
If you’re someone that does a lot of presentations or uses an external monitor for the additional workspace, then you need to know how to use AirPlay.

Airplay lets a user either use an additional monitor as a 2nd display, or as a way to show others what’s currently on your display. Even though this how to is for Mac, there are apps out there that will do almost the same thing for other operating systems such as Linux and Windows.
In order for this how to to work, you need one or more of the following:
- A Mac.
- An iPad.
- An iPhone.
And you’ll also need an Apple TV hooked intro an external monitor or a HDTV.
How to use AirPlay the first time:
- Make sure that the Apple TV and the devices that you wish to use are on the same Wired or Wireless network.
- Go on the device that you wish to use for mirroring.
- Look for the AirPlay icon (see main graphic for this article).
- Select it.
- Select the Apple TV name that you wish to AirPlay TO.
- Since this is the first time you’re using it, the Apple TV will show you a random ID number.
- Type the ID number on the device when asked.
- After that, you should be able to see your device’s screen on the other monitor.
- That’s it.
From then on, you’ll be able to quickly connect to the external monitor when you wish to use this feature.
