The below steps should be for all iOS devices.
1. When available, download and install the latest version of iTunes.
2. Go in to iTunes.
3. Plug in your iOS device into your computer.
4. iTunes should back up your iOS device.
5. iTunes should then ask if you wish to upgrade to the latest version, click “YES”.
The process should take anywhere from 20 – 30 minutes, depending on the speed of your Internet connection (for downloading the iOS5 update from Apple) and the speed of the iOS device.
iOS 5 will work with the following:
– iPhone 3GS
– iPhone 4
– iPod Touch (3rd and 4th Generations)
– iPad (1st and 2nd Generations)
When the upgrading is finished, and your device boots for the first time, you’ll go through a “set up procedure”. iOS5 eliminates the need for the device to be set up via iTunes. This is where you’ll set up iCloud, WiFi networks, etc. This process should take no more then 3 – 5 minutes.
