- Make sure your computer meets or exceeds the minimum system requirements for the upgrade. This information can be found in the Mac App Store below the description of the operating system.
- As we reported yesterday, make sure you’ve backed up all of your important stuff.
- Go to the Mac App Store and download the El Capitan installation app. It’ll be in the Launchpad when it has completed.
- Go into Launch Pad, and double click on the installation icon.
- A window will come up asking if you wish to preform the upgrade now.
- The system will make sure your computer can handle the upgrade, and download some necessary installation files before rebooting itself into the installation process.
- The installation process takes anywhere from 30-45 minutes to complete. Allow ample time for this process! Do NOT interrupt it once it starts.
If all goes well, you will be asked a series of questions to help get your Mac back online as soon as possible.
