How to: Take a Screen Shot in Mac OS X

MacDesktopEvery now and then, you need to take a screen shot of the current screen that’s you’re on, for troubleshooting purposes, or to document some event that’s on screen.

There are 5 different ways to do this.  We’re going to show you 2 of them:

A. Taking the entire screen:

* Press [Command] + [Shift] + [3] – The .png file will be on your desktop.

B. Taking a part of the screen:

1. Press [Command] + [Shift] + [4] – The arrow will turn into crosshairs.
2. Move the crosshairs to where you want to start the screenshot.
3. Drag to select an area. While dragging, you can hold the Shift key, Option key, or Space bar to change the way the selection moves.
4. When you’ve selected the area you want, release your mouse or trackpad button. To cancel, press the Escape (esc) key before you release the button. – You’ll find the .png file on the desktop.
