While the Apple TV 2 is supposed to be easy to set up and use, some people may still have questions, or want a ‘common sense’ set up guide to help them get up and running quickly.

These instructions are for the Apple TV 2, but can be used for the Apple TV 1 as well:

0. What you need: Apple TV, remote, power cord, and a HDMI wire (sold separately).
1.  Lay everything out in front of you so you have easy access to what you need later.
2.  Make sure your TV has an available HDMI port on the back of the TV.
3.  DO NOT PLUG IN THE APPLE TV until you do step #4.
4.  Take one end of the  HDMI wire, plug it into your TV and likewise to the Apple TV.
5.  Plug in the Apple TV in to an electrical outlet.
6.  Turn your TV on.
7.  Tune your TV to the same HDMI port that you plugged in the Apple TV into.
8.  Using the Apple TV remote control, follow the onscreen instructions.

That’s it.
