Keeping your devices updated with the latest software and security updates is important, especially in today’s world of hackers and people looking to steal someone’s identity anyway possible.

While most Internet-connected devices may need to be updated manually, persons who have the Amazon Echo don’t have to worry about that.

As long as the device is connected to the Internet and is in “Do Not Disturb” mode, Alexa will check for updates (between 11pm – 6am local time), download them, and auto-install them for you, so you can be assured that the device is using the latest security and other enhancements.  The device will not respond to any requests during the update(s).

These updates usually take anywhere from 5, 10, or 15 minutes to complete, depending on the size of the update and your Internet connection speed.
