The following steps are how to obtain the public beta of the upcoming MacOS Monterey, which will be available this Fall.
But first, what’s compatible?
The following is a list of hardware that’s compatible with macOS Monterey:
- iMac – Late 2015 and later
- iMac Pro – 2017 and later
- MacBook Air – Early 2015 and later
- MacBook Pro – Early 2015 and later
- Mac Pro – Late 2013 and later
- Mac mini – Late 2014 and later
- MacBook – Early 2016 and later
If you have one of the above models, let’s continue.
Things to do before upgrading:
- Enroll in the Apple Beta Software Program.
- Click on the blue Sign up button or, if you’re already a member, click sign in.
- Enter your Apple ID and password and then a two-factor authentication code if verification is required.
- Agree to the Apple Beta Software Program terms and conditions.
- Once signed in and at the Guide for Public Betas page, scroll up to the top and click on “Enroll Your Devices” then click on “macOS.”
Download the MacOS Monterey Beta:
- Save the file to your download folder or Desktop for easy retrieval later.
- Once it’s done, double click the file to start the process.
- The installer may ask you if you want to make a backup of your data. This is highly recommended!
- After that, agree to the Apple License Agreement, then click OK.
- From here, walk through the steps for the installation.
- The installation may take anywhere from 30-60 minutes depending on your Internet speed and other factors.
- Your computer may reboot and/or stop responding. THIS IS NORMAL. Do not interrupt the process!
- The installation should complete and reboot into the new MacOS.
- That’s it.
Again, this is BETA SOFTWARE so you may experience unexpected behavior after installing this software. INSTALL AT YOUR DATA’s RISK.
