All you need is the below, an iOS device (pref. an iPhone), and know how to read a few codes into the Home App.
- For best performance and ease of setup, I recommend getting the Meross Smart Plug Mini. Click here for more info.
- Unplug the appliance from the wall that you wish to automate.
- Plug in the appliance to the Smart Plug.
- The smart plug has an ID number on it. Write it down incase you cannot use your cam to automate the pairing procedure later.
- Plug in the Smart Plug into the outlet (a wall outlet is best).
- Look for a green and orange blinking light on the side. This means that the plug is ready to be setup.
- Go into the HOME app on the iOS device.
- Press the plus (+) button on the upper-right to add a new device.
- Your camera will turn on looking for an ID number that’s on the plug.
- Point the camera towards the special ID number OR you can type it in yourself.
- If all goes well, the app will recognize the ID number and automatically setup the plug.
- When asked, give the device a name so you can easily identify it in the home app.
- Repeat the steps for any other appliances you wish to add.
- That’s it.
Setting up the plug with the Amazon Echo is even easier and instructions can be found here.
