If you’re one, then enabling root in Mac OS X 10.7 is simple.  Follow these steps:

1.  Launch the Directory Utility (located in: /System/Library/CoreServices).
2.  Click the pad lock icon (lower left corner).
3.  Enter your login password.
4.  The pad lock icon will ‘open’.
5.  In the Edit Menu, click Enable Root User.
6.  In the Edit Menu, click Change Root Password.
7.  Come up with a password that you’ll remember.
8.  Enter it, then click OK.
9.  Click the lock icon again to “lock the settings.”

The Root User is now enabled.
