Unlike early versions of Windows, its almost entirely automated with updating itself to ensure that the operating system is running with the latest updates.
BUT there is still one area that you have to do – delete old update files that it uses during the update process, as it could take up variable hard disk space.
There are a lot of ways to do this, but I’ll go over the simplest and fastest way.
- Open the Start menu, typeĀ Control Panel, and pressĀ Enter.
- Go toĀ Administrative Tools.
- Double-click onĀ Disk Cleanup.
- SelectĀ Clean up system files.
- Mark the checkbox next toĀ Windows Update Cleanup.
- If available, you can also mark the checkbox next toĀ Previous Windows installations. Doing so will delete Windows.old file.
- ClickĀ OK.
- Wait for Windows to complete the uninstallation process.
- That’s it.
After you delete old update files, as outlined above, you might also want toĀ delete some Windows files and foldersĀ to free up even more space. Some of the most common files and folders that you can safely delete include upgrade log files, unused language resource files, and temporary files.
