How to: Bring over your stuff from your old iPhone to a New one

iPhone6sLineUpDid you get the new iPhone?  Great!  Now comes the fun part – getting all of your stuff from the old one to the new.

This how to will cover how to back up and restore from iTunes or iCloud.

iTunes:

  1. Plug your old phone into your computer and enable iTunes.
  2. Save all your iTunes purchases by selecting File > Devices > Transfer Purchases (*).
  3. Click Backup Now.

(*) If you want to save Health and Activity data from your iOS device or Apple Watch, you’ll need to encrypt your backup: Select the box called Encrypt [device] backup and make a memorable password.

iCloud:

  1. Make sure you’re connected to a WiFi Network.
  2. Select Settings > iCloud > Backup.
  3. If it isn’t already, flip on the “iCloud Backup” option.
  4. Tap the Backup Now option.
  5. The phone will backup important data to your iCloud account (*)

(*) The device will backup your settings and some app data (including  game data).

To restore your backup on your new device, make sure you have your login information to your iCloud account.  The setup process will walk you through restoring your information on the new device from the iCloud account.  Make sure you read ALL of the instructions during this process for a seamless experience.

This entire process should take anywhere from 30-45 minutes.
