Apple has released the second release candidate (RC) for iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4 to developers, just a few days after the first RC. These updates, which can be downloaded via Settings > General > Software Update on compatible devices, introduce several new features.

One notable feature is Priority Notifications, an Apple Intelligence feature that highlights important notifications on the Lock Screen.

Apple News+ subscribers also gain a new Food section, while Image Playground adds a Sketch style for hand-drawn image generation. Additionally, Apple Intelligence expands language support to include French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified), and localized English for Singapore and India.

This update includes enhancements, bug fixes, and security updates for your iPhone.

Apple Intelligence (iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max):

• Priority notifications appear at the top of your notifications, highlighting important notifications that may require your immediate attention.

• Sketch is now available as an additional style option in Image Playground, allowing you to create gorgeous sketch drawings.

• Apple Intelligence features support 8 additional languages and 2 additional English locales, including English (India, Singapore), French (France, Canada), German (Germany), Italian (Italy), Japanese (Japan), Korean (South Korea), Portuguese (Brazil), Simplified Chinese, and Spanish (Spain, Latin America, US).

Apple Vision Pro App:

The new Apple Vision Pro app, automatically installed for users with the device, assists you in discovering new content, spatial experiences, and quickly accessing information about your Apple Vision Pro.

Apple News+:

Apple News+ now offers a diverse range of recipes from renowned recipe publishers. The Recipe Catalog enables you to browse or search for the perfect dish and save it to your Saved Recipes. Cooking mode provides step-by-step instructions to make cooking a breeze. Additionally, the Food section includes stories about restaurants, kitchen tips, healthy eating, and more.

Photos:

The Photos app introduces new filters that allow you to show or hide items not contained in an album or synced from a Mac or PC in the Library view. You can also reorder items in the Media Types and Utilities collections and sort albums by Date Modified. Consistent filtering options are available across all collections, including the ability to sort by oldest or newest first. Furthermore, you can disable the “Recently Viewed” and “Recently Shared” collections in Photos Settings. Notably, hidden photos are no longer included for import to Mac or a PC if Use Face ID is enabled in Photos settings.

This update also includes various enhancements and bug fixes:

• Safari recent search suggestions help you quickly return to previous search topics when starting a new query.

• Parents can now create a Child Account for their kids in Photos Setup Assistant, streamlining the process and allowing child-appropriate default settings if they prefer to complete the setup later.

• The App Store now includes summaries for user reviews in the Albums section, providing quick insights from other users.

• Parents can pause and resume app downloads or updates on the App Store without losing progress.

• New widgets for Podcasts include a Followed Shows widget to track favorite shows and a Library widget to access frequently used sections like Latest Episodes, Saved, and Downloaded.

• Ambient Music offers the ability to instantly play music from Control Center, providing access to hand-curated playlists that serve as soundtracks for daily life.

• Apple Fitness+ Collections can now be added to the Library.

• Matter-compatible robot vacuum cleaners can be controlled in the Home app and added to scenes and automations.

• Support for 10 new system languages, including Bangla, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu, has been added.

Some features may not be available in all regions or on all Apple devices.
