Japan’s Funai Electric started making the device in 1983, at one point selling over 15Â million units a year.
Now fast forward to 2015, when Funai sold just 750,000 units, and also found it was getting harder to find the parts to make VCRs because of the popularity of CDs, DVDs, and the Internet.  People are also finding that a VCR Tape can only last about 20 years or so, whereas a CD or DVD can last around a 1,000 years.
The very first VCR (Video Cassette Recorder) was first created in the 1960s, but didn’t gain popularity until the 70’s when RCA and others brought more affordible models to market.
