Earlier this year, an Apple Watch was credited with preventing a Calgary women from being raped after the device assisted her in contacting her partner following a suspected break-in attempted at her apartment which eventually lead to the rapist’s capture.
The women, who was asleep in her bed, suddenly gotten woken up by a figure moving around in her apartment. She texted her boyfriend (via the Apple Watch) which, in turn, called 9-1-1. The rapist was caught.
The rapist, eventually pleaded guilty on charges of breaking and entering with intent to sexually assault a women, who identity is protected by a publication ban. While the crime that was committed was breaking and entering, Macindoe’s possession of a bag containing supplies that were clearly intended for rape, as well as the circumstances of the incident, exacerbated the charges.
