As a person with a disability, and a computer geek since the early 1980’s, I am always on the lookout for computer hardware and software for persons with disabilities, even though my small software company doesn’t make such software.

On Sunday evening’s 60 Minutes, after the interview with the author of Steve Jobs‘s bio, they had a report on how persons with Autism are using the Apple iPad as a way to communicate.

As some of you know, a person with Autism cannot communicate with the outside world.  The person’s speech is affected and the person seems to be ‘in their own world’ sort to speak.  The 60 Minutes report showed three persons with Autism using an Apple iPad to communicate with the outside world.

While it is true (and as the report showed) an iPad is not for all persons with Autism.  But this writer feels that it is a step in the right direction.

For more information or to see the report again, you can go to CBSNEWS.COM and click on the ’60 Minutes’ option, or you can also download the iPad app and gain access to the report that way.
