Ontario man saved by Apple Watch Fall Detection

An Ontario, Canada man was saved by his Apple Watch when he fell and hit his head on the way down.  The fall rendered him unable to respond to the Apple Watch's fall detection alert. Because he didn't respond to the alert, the watch auto-dialed emergency services as well as his wife from a pre-determined emergency list that him and his family had set up beforehand.

Fall detection is a feature available on Apple Watch that can contact emergency services in the event of a bad fall, something an Ontario man learned firsthand on Friday.

When emergency help arrived, he was rushed to the emergency room in an ambulance and given seven stitches. Alexander Laserson thanks Apple for the technology that provided such a swift response to his fall.

"Without the Apple Watch, it is possible I would be dead by now," Laserson said. "The technology works."

FCC: TV Stations Must Continue to Offer Free ATSC 1.0 OTA TV

Good news for anyone who has yet to upgrade to a TV or device with ATSC 3.0 NextGen TV. Last week the FCC announced they will be pushing back their deadline that would have let TV stations shut down their 1.0 signals to Juen 2027. The FCC did add, though, that they will reconsider this transition in 2026 to see if that date needs to change again.

For cord cutters, this means your current TV will still get its free over-the-air TV. The FCC also said TV stations must offer the same content on both the 1.0 and 3.0 ATSC standers at least for their most popular programs.

Developers: Get a head start on developing for Apple Vision Pro Visually

Even though Apple's new Vision Pro headset isn't scheduled to come out until 2024, there's no shortage of opinions and how to videos about developing for the upcoming device.

You can use the below reference to get a head start on developing:

Apple Vision Pro: To develop or not to develop, that is the question

For us Apple developers, we should decide if we want to even bother learning how to make apps for the upcoming Apple Vision Pro, which is scheduled to be released sometime in 2024.

Apple Developer Paul Hudson from Hacking with Swift has made a video about what he thinks about the new gadget and if we should even consider developing for the platform. This is a very good video and has helped me to decide.

Take a minute and watch the below video.
