The Hollywood Reporter reviews Apple TV’s Series HIJACK.

One of the leading Hollywood TV and movie web sites, The Hollywood Reporter, reviewed the Apple TV movie Hijack.  What did they think of it?  Read a sample below:

Were it not for, you know, its terror-at-35,000-feet concept, Apple TV+’s Hijackwould be the TV equivalent of a classic plane read: slick, exciting, unfussy. As it stands, it’s ideal for a lazy weekend planted firmly on the couch. Creators George Kay (Lupin) and Jim Field Smith (Litvinenko) may not be pushing the bounds of the medium, nor is star Idris Elba elevating his craft to new heights. But there’s something to be said for a show that knows exactly what it wants to be, and pulls it off without pretension.

Its premise is as straightforward as its title. Unfolding in real time, 24-style, the seven-hour miniseries chronicles a seven-hour flight from Dubai to London. By the end of the first chapter, a small group of nefarious agents, led by the sneering Stuart (Neil Maskell), have taken control of the plane. Over the next six, the 200-plus passengers aboard figure out how best to survive the ordeal, while those on the ground — air traffic controllers, law enforcement officers, government officials and the like — piece together what’s happened, and figure out how to respond.

CNN planning to ditch Cable and go all Streaming

Yesterday Bloomberg broke a story that said Warner Bros. Discovery has already decided to offer CNN on Max outside of the United States and is looking at options to offer a live feed inside the United States.

So what is happening and when could you expect CNN to start streaming on Max? Today we are going to break down everything we know.

What do we know for sure about Warner Bros. Discovery plans for CNN and Max?

Earlier this year before HBO rebranded as Max, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery David Zaslav said, “We’re a global leader in sports. And we’re a global leader in news. And in a few months, we’ll come back to you with details of our attack plan to use this important and differentiating live content to grow our streaming business even further.”

Max already streams films and documentaries about sports and has already begun live-streaming some sports events. Adding news to the mix is a logical next step if the streaming service aims to continue growing its audience. A number of streaming platforms offer some type of news, but it’s often limited in scope and not always live.

When could a live feed of CNN join Max?

According to Bloomberg, CNN will join Max internationally sometime in 2023. There are plans in the works to expand that to the United States at some later date.

How likely is this to happen?

Bloomberg seems to feel conferral enough to post the story, but other sources are saying not so fast. According to a report by Deadline, a source at Warner Bros. Discovery said the Bloomberg report was premature.

Warner Bros. Discovery is not alone in its plans to go direct to consumers. Disney is also reportedly planning on offering ESPN as a stand-alone streaming service last some point in the future. For now though no dates have been announced.

While no details or official announcements by Warner Bros. Discovery or Max have been released yet, live-streaming news is coming to Max eventually. The question now is what will that look like and how soon will it happen. Stay tuned for more information about Warner Bros. Discovery’s plans to sue CNN with Max.

TV Network WGN coming to YouTube TV

After months of waiting, Chicago residents will finally be able to stream WGN this week on YouTube TV.

No word on what day it'll be appearing on the streaming service.

About WGN:

WGN Television, whose call letters are derived from the Chicago Tribune’s first slogan, “World’s Greatest Newspaper,” hit the airwaves on April 5, 1948 on Channel 9 in Chicago from its studios at Tribune Tower.  Colonel Robert McCormick led the Tribune Company into the TV era, believing that “in television, we have embarked upon another of America’s adventures.”

In addition to carrying Chicago Cubs and White Sox baseball games starting in 1948, WGN-TV made its first attempts at producing entertainment series to air on the station while also distributing them to TV stations across the country.  Although initially an affiliate of the DuMont and CBS television networks, WGN-TV realized it could better serve the Chicago area audience as an independent station.  By 1957, WGN became one of the first local television stations to offer a limited schedule of live programs in color.  One year later, the station had scored many firsts, including the first televised appearance of President Truman in Chicago as well as mobile coverage of General MacArthur’s visit to the city.
