iOS: 5G Not Working? Try these Troubleshooting Tips

5G offers super fast Internet from an iPhone and even iPad with cellular capabilities.  But you may find that the familiar 5G icon isn't showing up all the time, or not at all.

These Troubleshooting tips may or may not help you get that access.

Tip #1: Ensure 5G is even enabled on the iPhone:

  • Go into Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options.
  • Be sure 5G is enabled.

Tip #2 - Make sure 5G is even available:

  • While it should be standard, some outlined areas of the US and other countries don't have 5G Coverage yet.  Check with your Cellular Provider.  Most provider's websites have a coverage map based on your location.

Tip #3 - Airplane Mode:

  • Airplane mode temporarily disables the cellular single on an iPhone. This is supposed to be used while an airplane is taking off or landing.
  • Go to Settings > Airplane Mode
  • Toggle it OFF, wait about 10 seconds, and then enable it again.  You should see the 5G icon on the phone.

Tip #4 - Reboot the iPhone:

  • Sometimes rebooting your iPhone can cause 5G to start working again. Do this on any 5G compatible iPhone by pressing Volume Up, Volume Down, then press and hold Power/Lock until you see the  Apple logo on screen.

I hope the above tips help you get the 5G coverage you deserve (and crave!). :-)

iOS 16: An all-new keyboard layout option

As pointed out by MacRumors.com, iOS 16 features an all-new keyboard option for end users called the Dvorak keyboard layout.

This layout was created to make typing on a standard keyboard faster and more efficient which provides users another alternative to the standard QWERTY layout that comes by default. The feature was largely hidden under it was recently featured by Ars Technica and The Verge.

It does take some getting used to, but once you do, you'll never go back.

Here's how to get to it:

  • Go to Settings.
  • General.
  • Keyboard.
  • Keyboards.
  • English.
  • Dvorak.

The keyboard option is only available in English.

How to (QUICKLY) disable Crash Detection on an iPhone 14

I've already done an article about How to Disable Crash Detection on an iPhone 14 in Settings.  But I have found another way to quickly disable this feature before going on such rides as a rollercoaster.

Here's how:

  1. Pull down command center.
  2. Turn Airplane Mode ON.
  3. When finished, repeat step 1.
  4. Turn Airplane Mode OFF.
  5. That's it.

Again, I don't recommend doing this. But its nice to know it can be done.
