Russo brothers’ film ‘Cherry’ premieres on Apple TV+ on March 12th

The Russo brothers’ Apple Original Film “Cherry” premiered in select theaters on February 26th and will premiere globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, March 12th.

“Cherry” follows the wild journey of a disenfranchised young man from Ohio who meets the love of his life, only to risk losing her through a series of bad decisions and challenging life circumstances. Inspired by the best-selling novel of the same name, “Cherry” features Tom Holland in the title role as an unhinged character who drifts from dropping out of college to serving in Iraq as an Army medic and is only anchored by his one true love, Emily (Ciara Bravo). Draining his finances, Cherry turns to bank robbing to fund his addiction, shattering his relationship with Emily along the way.

Goodbye iMac Pro: Apple discontinues iMac Pro, available ‘while supplies last’

Over the weekend, several news websites noted that Apple had added the tagline "while supplies last" to their iMac Pro line, speculating that the company will be discontinuing the line when the current supply runs dry.  The company isn't allowing any additional configurations and is only offering the base model.

The company introduced the new computer in December 2017 as a way to give professional users another choice in hardware other than the popular Mac Pro.

It's not clear if Apple is completely discontinuing the line, or an update is imminent.  But signs are pointing to a complete discontinuation of the model.

Apple TV+ announces programming partnership with Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai

Today, Apple is unveiling a multiyear programming partnership with women’s rights activist and youngest Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai. Building on Malala’s longstanding relationship with Apple, her original programming for Apple TV+ will span dramas, comedies, documentaries, animation, and children’s series, and draw on her ability to inspire people around the world.

“I believe in the power of stories to bring families together, forge friendships, build movements, and inspire children to dream,” said Malala Yousafzai. “And I couldn’t ask for a better partner than Apple to help bring these stories to life. I’m grateful for the opportunity to support women, young people, writers, and artists in reflecting the world as they see it.”

Malala and her new production company Extracurricular join Apple’s burgeoning roster of creative visionaries, including Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Will Smith, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Idris Elba, Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Octavia Spencer, Kumail Nanjiani, Alfonso Cuarón, and more.
At age 16, Malala published her best-selling memoir, “I Am Malala.” She’s since written two more books, starred in a documentary about her early life, and created Assembly, a digital publication for girls and young women available on Apple News. Since launching in 2018, Assembly has published stories from young women in more than 100 countries and in over 20 languages.

Malala also founded Malala Fund to champion every girl’s right to 12 years of safe, free, quality education. In 2018, Apple became Malala Fund’s first Laureate partner, supporting the organization’s work with local advocates and teachers in eight countries where girls face significant education challenges. Apple also assists with technology, curriculum, and research into policy changes to support girls’ education. The partnership has since expanded, and in Brazil, Apple’s 10 Developer Academies have partnered with Malala Fund to advance girls’ education opportunities there and around the world.

Microsoft updates Visual Studio to support M1 Macs

On Friday, Microsoft announced that it has updated its Visual Studio development platform to include support for M1 Macs.  This means anyone who uses Visual Studio can now develop apps for the M1 Chip without using a virtual machine or using Apple's Rosetta 2.

Microsoft stated the following:

We are happy to announce our first release of stable Apple Silicon builds this iteration. Users on Macs with M1 chips can now use VS Code without emulation with Rosetta, and will notice better performance and longer battery life when running VS Code. Thanks to the community for self-hosting with the Insiders build and reporting issues early in the iteration.

The default download of VS Code for macOS is now a Universal build that runs natively on all Macs. On the Downloads page, you can find more links to architecture-specific builds for Intel or Apple Silicon, which are smaller downloads compared to the Universal package.
