How to use the Voice Memo app in iOS

If you're like me, you use any means to remember something.  Sure, there is the Notes app, but that entails opening the app, pressing the "+" button, and then using the on-screen keyboard to jot down the note.  With Voice Memo, you can speak what you're thinking or want to remember.

Here's how to use Voice Memo on iOS:

  1. Ask Siri "Open Voice Memo".
  2. If this is the first time you're using the app, you'll be presented a blank screen with the title "All Recordings."
  3. To record a memo, tap the RED circle button.
  4. Record your memo.
  5. When finished, tap the red square.
  6. Now that a voice memo is recorded, it'll show up on the screen in step 2.
  7. The icons with the recorded memo should be self explanatory.

To delete a memo:

  1. Find the memo you wish to delete.
  2. Swipe LEFT until you see the Garbage Can.
  3. Tap it.
  4. That's it.

Apple revises its App Review Guidelines for Developers

Apple is sending out notices to its developers about changes to its app review guidelines.  These changes are to satisfy a class action lawsuit open by U.S. Software developers.

The below are changes:

The App Store is a safe and trusted place for customers to discover and download apps, and a great opportunity for developers. The following updates to the App Store Review Guidelines support new features in upcoming OS releases, better protect customers, and help your apps go through the review process as smoothly as possible.

• Added 2.3.13. “In-app events are timely events that happen within your app. To feature your event on the App Store, it must fall within an event type provided in App Store Connect. All event metadata must be accurate and pertain to the event itself, rather than the app more generally. Events must happen at the times and dates you select in App Store Connect, including across multiple storefronts. You may monetize your event so long as you follow the rules set forth in Section 3 on Business. And your event deep link must direct users to the proper destination within your app. Read In-App Events for detailed guidance on acceptable event metadata and event deep links.”

• Deleted from 3.1.3. “Developers cannot use information obtained within the app to target individual users outside of the app to use purchasing methods other than in-app purchase (such as sending an individual user an email about other purchasing methods after that individual signs up for an account within the app).”

• Added 5.1.1 (x). “Apps may request basic contact information (such as name and email address) so long as the request is optional for the user, features and services are not conditional on providing the information, and it complies with all other provisions of these guidelines, including limitations on collecting information from kids.”

Apple mandates daily COVID-19 tests for unvaccinated corporate employees

Apple will force unvaccinated corporate employees to undergo daily COVID-19 tests while vaccinated staff members will be required to take rapid tests once per week.

Apple Inc. will begin to force unvaccinated corporate employees to test for COVID-19 each time they want to enter an office, a move that tightens its virus protocols while still stopping short of a vaccine mandate.

The new requirement will also apply to employees who decline to report their vaccination status to Apple, the company told employees this week. Vaccinated staff will be required to take rapid tests once per week.

Apple retail store employees, meanwhile, will have slightly different rules. Unvaccinated staff will be asked to test twice per week instead of each day they come to work. Vaccinated workers will also need to take a rapid test each week.

Apple is asking employees to report their vaccination status by Oct. 24, a delay from an earlier mid-September deadline. Employees will also have to show proof of their status in the coming days… The new requirements go into effect on Nov. 1, Apple told staff.

Employees will be able to pick up at-home rapid tests from Apple offices and retail stores. The tests take 15 minutes, and employees will self-report their results through an internal app.
