How to check if your iPhone is ‘Unlocked’

If you've followed Apple News for sometime like we do, you know that we maybe approaching a time when the company will announce a new iPhone for the holidays. Wouldn't it be nice to know if you could sell your current one to someone that uses another cell provider such as AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon, or if it is locked to a particular cell carrier?  Well, you can!

Here's how:

  • Go to Settings > General.
  • Select About.
  • Scroll down until you see "Carrier Lock."
  • If it says "NO SIM RESTRICTIONS" then your iPhone is unlocked.
  • If it says "SIM LOCKED" then your iPhone is locked to that cell carrier.
  • That's it.

Report: iPhone 13 Launching in September with larger batteries and more

TrendForce says that Apple’s iPhone 13 series will launch in September with larger batteries, 5nm+ Apple Silicon, and more.

The iPhone 13 series, which is about to be formally announced by Apple, has already had its exterior design speculated on by various media outlets and fans alike. TrendForce’s latest investigations indicate that some of the notable hardware upgrades of the iPhone 13 pertain to the SoC (manufactured at the 5nm+ node, which enables improved performance and decreased power consumption), display, and camera. In addition, iPhone handsets featuring support for 5G mmWave will be available for sale in more countries after the release of iPhone 13.

The iPhone 13 will see a shift in its charging circuit board from the previous rigid-flex PCB design to a new design featuring SiP combined with flexible PCB. The space-saving feature of this new design will also likely result in increased battery capacity. As for retail prices, the iPhone 13 series is expected to remain similar to the iPhone 12 series assuming Apple is able to effectively control manufacturing costs, since the latest models do not come with significant hardware upgrades. As a result of this aggressive pricing scheme, iPhone shipment will likely maintain its growth trajectory for two consecutive years.

Looking ahead to the shipment volumes of the new iPhone models for 2H21, TrendForce expects Apple to maintain its aggressive pricing strategy in order to boost shipment. In addition, as the iPhone 13 series will once again return to a September release, total iPhone shipment is expected to undergo a 30% YoY increase in 3Q21, but a 5% YoY decrease in 4Q21. As such, iPhone sales for 2H21 will likely surpass 2H20 figures. For 2021, iPhones are expected to account for 16.7% of all smartphone shipment, which is a step-up compared to last year.

Disney+ hits 116 million subscribers; Q3 earnings beats expectations across the board

Disney reported blowout fiscal third-quarter earnings after the bell Thursday, beating Wall Street expectations on subscriber growth which is now at 116 million subscribers, revenue, and earnings.

Shares were up more than 5% [after the bell Thursday].

• Earnings per share: 80 cents vs 55 cents expected in a Refinitiv survey of analysts
• Revenue: $17.02 billion vs $16.76 billion expected in the survey

The company beat on subscriber estimates for Disney+, coming in at 116 million. StreetAccount estimated the company to report 114.5 million subscribers in its third quarter. The segment had 103.6 million in its fiscal second quarter.

Average monthly revenue per subscriber for Disney+ dipped 10% year-over-year to $4.16. The company attributed the dip to a higher mix of Disney+ Hotstar subscribers compared to the prior-year quarter.

Disney’s average revenue per user has shrunk in recent quarters because of the lower price points for its Disney+ and Hotstar bundle in Indonesia and India. The service has lower average monthly revenue per paid subscriber than traditional Disney+ in other markets, pulling down the overall average for the quarter.
