After developer complaints, Apple ups Mac mini Transition Kit return credit up to $500.00

Since developers shelled out $500, many were unhappy with the credit amount, which also required the funds to be used by the end of May. Many developers complained about Apple’s credit amount and the time limit on spending, as the end of May would not allow the credit to be used toward a product released later in 2021.

Apple has now reversed course and upped the credit, and will now be providing developers with $500 to put toward an ‌M1‌ Mac or any other Apple product. The time limit to spend the credit has also been increased, with Apple giving developers until the end of the year to use it.

SCAM ALERT: Don’t fall for THIS Scam!

In recent weeks, my family and I have been getting calls from someone claiming to be from Apple notifying me that my iCloud account has had some unusual activity and to call a special number for assistance in changing your password.

This is a scam to obtain your old and new passwords for your iCloud account.  We contacted Apple directly and the representative said that the company will never call you wish such a notice, to hang up immediately, and report it to them either by phone or email.

If you or someone you know did fall for this scam, login to your iCloud account immediately and change your password.

How to get started with automating your home for HomeKit or the Amazon Alexa

If you want to make it easier to have access to your lights or appliances while you're at home, its never been an easier (and affordable) time to do so, especially if you have an Amazon Alexa or Apple's Home for iOS or Mac.

All you need is the below, an iOS device (pref. an iPhone), and know how to read a few codes into the Home App.

  • For best performance and ease of setup, I recommend getting the Meross Smart Plug Mini.  Click here for more info.
  • Unplug the appliance from the wall that you wish to automate.
  • Plug in the appliance to the Smart Plug.
  • The smart plug has an ID number on it.  Write it down incase you cannot use your cam to automate the pairing procedure later.
  • Plug in the Smart Plug into the outlet (a wall outlet is best).
  • Look for a green and orange blinking light on the side.  This means that the plug is ready to be setup.
  • Go into the HOME app on the iOS device.
  • Press the plus (+) button on the upper-right to add a new device.
  • Your camera will turn on looking for an ID number that's on the plug.
  • Point the camera towards the special ID number OR you can type it in yourself.
  • If all goes well, the app will recognize the ID number and automatically setup the plug.
  • When asked, give the device a name so you can easily identify it in the home app.
  • Repeat the steps for any other appliances you wish to add.
  • That's it.

Setting up the plug with the Amazon Echo is even easier and instructions can be found here.
