How to add a Web Site Shortcut to the Home Screen of an iPhone, iPad and/or an iPad Pro

If you use your iPad like I use mine, you know that shortcuts become your best friend.

Fortunately, Apple has a way to make frequently-visited web sites easy to get to from the Home Screen.

Here's how:

Open Safari, and go to a website you wish to have a shortcut for.
At the bottom of the screen, click the SHARE icon.
Scroll through the options until you see the Add to Home Screen option.
When asked, give the shortcut a name.
Click Done.
Return to the Home Screen.
Your new shortcut will now be available.

You can do this with virtually any website you choose.

Apple’s Over-The-Air Restore option maybe a huge game changer for iOS

A few days ago, a rumor started where the latest beta of iOS may offer the ability to restore an iOS device to factory settings without the need to be connected to a computer and using iTunes.

Now the below article from Uzair Ghani for wccftech seems to verify that fact.

I had an iPhone lying around that simply shut down randomly. There was no pattern to it. There was no specific percentage that it hit before the shutdown even happened… So, I sent the phone over to Apple, they performed a clean restore of the software and the shutdown simply stopped happening.

This iPhone had around 2 years worth of over the air updates on top of one another, meaning it was filled with garbage. It badly needed a restore. And we all know how we do it – connect it to a PC or a Mac, download the firmware file and then restore. Sure, you can do it from Settings, but it’s not the same thing. You are essentially just erasing your files and settings and bringing it back to a ‘stock state’ using the software bits that were accumulated over the years.

So, now you will immediately understand why the over the air recovery feature has me excited… At this point it’s unclear when this feature will make the cut to the public. With iOS 13.4 or iOS 14? It’s hard to say. But whenever it does arrive, I’m going to use the heck out of it.

FaceBook Cancels F8 Developer Conference over Coronavirus Fears

Facebook is canceling its annual F8 developer conference in San Jose, Calif., over concerns about the spread of coronavirus.

The company, in a post on its developer news blog, said that the in-person component of the spring event, which was scheduled for May 5-6, would not take place. Instead, it is planning local events, videos and live-streamed content to replace the gathering.

"This was a tough call to make — F8 is an incredibly important event for Facebook and it’s one of our favorite ways to celebrate all of you from around the world — but we need to prioritize the health and safety of our developer partners, employees and everyone who helps put F8 on," Konstantinos Papamiltiadis, director of platform partnerships at Facebook, wrote in the post. "We explored other ways to keep the in-person part of F8, but it’s important to us to host an inclusive event and it didn’t feel right to have F8 without our international developers in attendance."

Facebook said it would donate $500,000 to organizations working to diversify the tech industry and would prioritize groups serving San Jose residents. It also pledged to host an F8-inspired event for local students in place of hosting them at the event.

Additional information about the replacement F8 programming is expected in the coming weeks.

The cancelation of F8 comes after the decision not to hold Mobile World Congress in Barcelona due to coronavirus concerns. The event was originally scheduled for Feb. 24-27. San Francisco and Orange County have also declared local emergencies due to the outbreak, while Chinese distributors and representatives from its film industry dropped out of Berlin's European Film Market as well as the upcoming Cinemacon.

YouTube TV sends notices to customers about loosing the FOX Regional Sports Networks and YES Network.

YouTube TV is sending notices to its customers about the service is unable to reach a deal with Sinclair to continue to carry the following TV Networks:

Fox Regional Sports Network
YES Sports Network.

The following is a copy of the actual email:

Our goal with YouTube TV is to offer you the content you love, delivered the way you want.

To make this happen, we need to enter into deals with our partners. Unfortunately, we have been unable to reach an agreement with Sinclair to continue to carry the FOX Regional Sports Networks and YES Network.

Starting February 29, 2020, you will no longer be able to watch live, on demand, or recorded content from your local FOX Regional Sports Network or YES Network.

Please know that we do not take this decision lightly. We value your membership and will continue to strive to build the best streaming experience possible.
