‘The Mandalorian’ on Disney Plus is the top TV show in the world

live-action "Star Wars" series, "The Mandalorian," quickly became the biggest new show in the US. Now, only three weeks since its debut, the show is the biggest in the world.

The series is the most in-demand show in the world across all platforms, according to Parrot Analytics. The company measures "demand expressions,"its standardized TV demand measurement unit that reflect the desire, engagement, and viewership of a series weighted by importance.

Parrot Analytics said Tuesday that "The Mandalorian" was 31.9 times more in demand than the average series globally during the past week, topping HBO's "Game of Thrones" and Netflix's "The Crown" and "Stranger Things."

"The Mandalorian" dethroned "Stranger Things" as Parrot Analytics' top streaming show in the US last week, breaking its 21-week streak at the top.

"The Mandalorian" is now in the running for Parrot Analytics' most in-demand series debut in the world this year, along with HBO's "Chernobyl," Amazon's "The Boys," Apple's "See," and Netflix's "The Umbrella Academy." The company will announce the winner at its Global TV Demand Awards next month.

Baby Yoda, the show's infant Yoda-like character that the titular bounty hunter has tasked himself with protecting, has become just as much of a global phenomenon as the series itself, sparking countless memes and theories about his origins across the internet.

"The Mandalorian" has also been a hit with critics and has a 95% Rotten Tomatoes critic score after four episodes. Business Insider said in its review of the first episode that the series "proves 'Star Wars' can make the leap from movies to prestige TV."

Apple pays $25 million for Billie Eilish documentary for Apple TV+

Apple is paying $25 million for a documentary project about 17-year-old musician Billie Eilish bound for Apple TV+.

Billie Eilish’s big 2019 is culminating as she nears a deal with Apple TV+ for a documentary that comes with a $25 million price tag, according to multiple sources.

The film, which has already been shot, was directed by R.J. Cutler and produced in collaboration with Eilish’s label, Interscope Records, for a budget that one source pegs as being between $1 million and $2 million. It is expected to follow the 17-year-old singer-songwriter in the wake of the release of her debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, in March of this year. Cutler was granted deep access to Eilish’s private moments with family and behind-the-scenes of her public appearances.

The project [expected to premiere in 2020] will be available through entertainment platform Apple TV+ instead of Apple Music.

Disney’s Star Wars Land Hotel to open in 2021, here’s how it’ll work

Disney’s high-concept Star Wars hotel finally has an opening day. According to the official blog, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will open at Walt Disney World some time in 2021 with a two-day cruise-like itinerary. Cabins for five start at $3,300.

Galactic Starcruiser is being built literally across the street from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the new 14-acre land in Orlando, Florida. Not only will Galactic Starcruiser be a singular facility, it will also be a first-of-its-kind experience. Guests should expect a “24/7” storytelling experience with more in common with Westworld than a traditional hotel stay.

There are currently no plans to add a similar facility at Galaxy’s Edge in Anaheim, California.
