Hey, Star Trek fans, take a look at THIS!

As any Star Trek fan knows, it wouldn't be Star Trek if it wasn't for its iconic ship the U.S.S. Enterprise.  Many things have been made into the shape of the ship - models, lamps, keychains, and more.

A company called Titanium Technology and computer maker Lenovo showed off a prototype last year of a computer that was in the shape of the ship.  Now it seems that the company has actually brought it to market!

The star ship shaped computer has been licensed in 25 countries (not including the United States).  The project was crowd funder in China, and those backers are starting to receive the computer now.

The company has even made the below video (so we can all drool over).

The crowd funders offered three different specs, a fully fitted out gaming PC, complete with built in project at the front of the saucer (I think, there are some references in the crowd funders to this being a still in development feature), a mid-range (but still pretty darn good!) PC spec, and for those that just want a flashing model of the Enterprise, a bluetooth speaker only configuration - The speaker works independently in the PC specced versions too (see picts below):

No word on when (or even if) this is coming to the United States.

Oh, by the way, the company maybe coming out with a U.S.S. Discovery sometime in the future.

Apple Developers: Are you getting an “Invalid Toolchain” error when compiling apps? Here’s why!

Getting an app ready for the iOS App Store can sometimes be a frustrating process.  Especially when the app almost makes it to the App Store, and then you get an error that stops the process.

One such annoying error is called the "invalid toolchain".  What is it, and how can it be fixed?  While there could be multiple reasons for this error, here's one possible solution that I just ran into.

Most of the time, Apple has two versions of Xcode (the environment we use to make apps).  One is the beta version, and the other is called the Gold Master (or GM for short).

Each time we upload an app to the App Store, Xcode checks to see if the app was compiled with a GM version, or a Beta version.  If it's in a GM version (and everything else is setup okay) then the app gets uploaded to the store.  If not, then that error may come up.

To fix this error always go to https://developer.apple.com and download the latest GM version of Xcode, install it, then try the upload again.

Fake videos could become the next problem during the 2020 Election

Fake news was a big problem for the 2016 election. “Deepfake” videos could be an even bigger problem in 2020.

Deepfake technology can be used to create videos that seem to show politicians saying things they never said, or doing things they never have done. The technology first gained widespread attention in April 2018, when comedian Jordan Peele created a video that pretended to show former President Barack Obama insulting President Donald Trump in a speech.

The technology is a problem not only because the videos are fake and easy make, but also because like “fake news” articles on social media, they are likely to be shared.

“Deepfakes can be made by anyone with a computer, internet access, and interest in influencing an election,” said John Villasenor, a professor at UCLA focusing on artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. He explained that “they are a powerful new tool for those who might want to (use) misinformation to influence an election.”
