Report – Apple planning to launch three new iPhones in 2019

(Reuters) - Apple Inc plans to launch three iPhone models this year with some new camera features, including three rear cameras for the most expensive model and two for the other models, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

The new iPhones will succeed the XR model that has shown sluggish demand, which according to Apple was due to weak sales in China.

That led several electronics retailers in the world's second largest economy to slash iPhone prices this week.

Apple was not available for comment outside regular business hours.

The Cupertino, California-based company has decided to stick to liquid-crystal display (LCD) at a time when sluggish sales of iPhone XR cut into its most recent revenue projection, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter.

Star Trek’s Alex Kurtzman talks Picard Series

What’s Captain Picard been up to all these years? Recently, executive producer Alex Kurtzman spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about CBS All Access’ new Star Trek series.

A follow-up to Star Trek: The Next Generation, the TV show will see the return of Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard and explore the next chapter of his life.

In the interview, Kurtzman revealed the new CBS All Access series will be set after the destruction of the Romulan Empire:

Picard’s life was radically altered by the dissolution of the Romulan Empire.

And how did Stewart agree to return as Captain Picard? Kurtzman said it took a really amazing idea:

He threw down an amazing gauntlet and said, ‘If we do this, I want it to be so different, I want it to be both what people remember but also not what they’re expecting at all, otherwise why do it?'”

The Picard series, untitled as of now, is expected to debut in late 2019.

Apple Maps turn-by-turn goes online in India

Long a staple in places like the U.S. and Canada, turn-by-turn directions for Apple Maps have finally come to the world’s second-biggest country, India.,” Roger Fingas reports for AppleInsider.

“The option gives iPhone and Apple Watch owners a built-in way of navigating India’s sometimes complicated road system,” Fingas reports. “It remains to be seen how well Maps copes, as there are still periodic complaints about accuracy and guidance elsewhere.”

“It’s not clear why support has lagged in India,” Fingas reports. “Turn-by-turn guidance has been available in places like China and Germany for some time, and even in small markets like Andorra, Gibraltar, and Vatican City.”
