Apple delays HomePod until 2018

(CNBC): Apple said on Friday that it's delaying the launch of its HomePod smart speaker until next year.

"We can't wait for people to experience HomePod, Apple's breakthrough wireless speaker for the home, but we need a little more time before it's ready for our customers," Apple said. "We'll start shipping in the US, UK and Australia in early 2018."

The HomePod was originally announced during Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference in June. It's priced at $349 and will compete with other smart speakers from Amazon, including the Echo, the GoogleHome and similar products from Sonos.

The HomePod was originally scheduled to ship in December ahead of the holiday shopping season. Apple did not provide a specific reason for the delayed launch.

Transfer data between an old iPhone and a new iPhone the simple way

Now that Apple has two new three new iPhones available, one maybe wondering how to get their information (including photos, contacts, etc.) from one iPhone to another.

Their are two ways users can do this, and we'll show you both.

1. Via iTunes:

  • The below process is the same for both Mac and Windows.
  1. Plug in your old iPhone into a computer.
  2. Launch iTunes (if necessary).
  3. Find the iPhone icon either on the left side, or inside a button on the top of the window.
  4. Click on it.
  5. Select the SUMMARY option.
  6. In the BACKUP section, click the BACK UP NOW button.
  7. Wait for the process to complete.

Go through the set-up process on the new iPhone.  When you get to the "Apps & Data" screen, select the "Restore from iTunes Backup" option.  Follow the screens, and wait for the restore process to complete.

2. Via iCloud:

This process is faster only when connected to a WiFi Network for the backup process.  To do this:

On the old phone:

  1. Go to Settings > Account & Passwords > [Your iCloud Account].
  2. Select your iCloud account.
  3. Scroll all the way down, select "iCloud Backup."
  4. Make sure that the "iCloud Backup" option is switched to ON.
  5. Tap the "Backup Now" button.
  6. Wait for the backup to complete.

On the new phone:

Go through the set-up process on the new iPhone.  When you get to the "Apps & Data" screen, select the "Restore from iCloud Backup" option.  Follow the screens, and wait for the restore process to complete.

Hopefully the above will get you on your new iPhone in no time.
