Marissa Mayer will resign as CEO of Yahoo! Yahoo! to be renamed

Marissa Mayer will resign from Yahoo’s board of directors and the company itself will be renamed Altaba Inc., according to documents filed with the SEC today.

The documents state that following the close of Yahoo’s $4.8 billion sale to Verizon—which, by the way, is still up in the air—Mayer and several other members of the board will resign. The filing also take pains to emphasize that the departures are not “due to any disagreement with the Company on any matter relating to the Company’s operations, policies or practices.”

Besides Mayer, David Filo, Eddy Hartenstein, Richard Hill, Jane Shaw, and Maynard Webb all plan to resign from the board. In addition, the board intends to rename the shell of Yahoo Altaba Inc., which will certainly join the sad exclamation point in Yahoo’s Hall of Unfortunate Nomenclature.

It’s still unclear what role Mayer will have within the new company—if any at all—but at least she probably has that sweet severance package to fall back on.

Happy 10 Year Birthday, iPhone

“Exactly 10 years ago today, Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs took to the stage at the now defunct annual Macworld conference in San Francisco to unveil the iPhone,” Zach Epstein writes for BGR. “Putting an end to years of rumors and speculation, Jobs described the tiny new device as ‘a widescreen iPod with touch controls, a revolutionary mobile phone and a breakthrough internet communications device.'”

“Reactions in the media were mixed at the time, but reactions from Apple’s rivals were not: the giants of the smartphone industry all laughed off the iPhone as a device that could never compete with industry leaders,” Epstein writes. “Now, 10 years later, smartphone giants have all been toppled. Nokia and BlackBerry have all but exited the smartphone market, and Microsoft’s share of global smartphones sales is practically too small to count. Meanwhile, Apple has grown to become the most valuable company on the planet, all thanks to the tremendous success of the iPhone.”

iPhone Tip: Shake to Undo

I was on Twitter and have @AppleSupport on my timeline.  They posted a tip for iOS that I didn't know about until now.

Let's say you're in Mail and accidentally deleted a message.  You can then "Shake To Undo" the last action that you done.

Like so:

  1. Go into mail as normal.
  2. Read an email.
  3. Delete the email as normal.
  4. To undelete the message, shake the iOS device.
  5. A pop-up window will show asking if you wish to UNdelete the message.
  6. That's it.

How to set an alarm using Siri on Apple Watch

Here's how:

  1. Activate Siri by pressing and holding the digital crown until Siri appears.
  2. Now say, "Siri, wake me up at 7:30am (or 19:00 if you have it in Military Time).
  3. Siri will then verify the alarm time. Say "YES" to set the time.
  4. The alarm time is set.
  • To stop the alarm from sounding, either tap on the watch face or press the digital crown.
