“Over my many years of running Mac OS X Hints, a huge number of defaults write hints were published,” Rob Griffiths writes for Robservatory. “For those who aren’t aware, defaults write is a Terminal command that can be used to modify applications’ settings. While you can use these commands to modify settings that are present in an app’s Preferences panel, the more-common use of this command is to set non-visible (hidden) prefs that you won’t find in the GUI.”
“Here are three of my favorites — three that not only perceptually but actually increase the speed of your interactions with your Mac,” Griffiths writes. “I still, to this day, execute these commands on any new Mac I set up.”
Griffiths writes, “Don’t worry if you’d prefer to stay away from Terminal: I’ll also show how to use the long-lived TinkerTool to set each of these options using a (relatively easy if crowded) GUI interface.”

(CNBC): This year has seen a large number of beloved stars leaving us, including David Bowie, Prince, George Michael, Alan Rickman and now actress and author Carrie Fisher.
Even U.S. novelist George R.R. Martin, who is notorious for killing of swathes of his characters in his "Game of Throne" novels, has referred to 2016 as a "wretched year."
The number of favorite celebrities dying this year has prompted a South Carolina man to set up a donation page to make sure 94-year-old actress and "Golden Girls" star Betty White doesn't fall victim to 2016.
"Help 2016 catch these hands if it goes anywhere near Betty White! If she's okay with it I will fly to where ever Betty White is and keep her safe till Jan 1 , 2017," South Carolina-based Demetrios Hrysikos wrote on the GoFundMe page.
He further stated that if White doesn't want the money then he will donate it to a charity to help new stars.
"Now , assuming she doesn't want a strange Greek standing guard outside her door, all monies will be donated to the Spartanburg Little Theater to help craft new stars of stage and screen to carry mantle of the legends that have left is this year."
The page has already seen $1,670 in donations out of its $2,000 goal from 149 people in 15 hours.
A number of users took to Twitter to thank Hrysikos and also express their concern after Betty White started trending.
