Rouge One: A Star Wars Story on track for Huge $130M Plus Debut in U.S.

Some services even show the stand alone movie making $150 Million in its domestic debut.

(Entertainment Weekly): The Force remains with Lucasfilm and Disney, according to early projections.

Standalone film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story — one of the biggest box-office curiosities of the year — is projected to open to $130 million-plus in North America over the Dec. 16-18 weekend, which would mark the second-biggest December opening of all time after last year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The movie came on tracking Tuesday morning, with some services suggesting it could even approach $150 million.

The pre-Christmas corridor isn't known for huge openings, since consumers are distracted by holiday preparations. Prior to Force Awakens, no December film had ever launched north of $85 million, and that includes Avatar.

Directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Felicity Jones, Rogue One is the first in a series of planned standalone movies from Lucasfilm extending the Star Wars film empire now that the iconic franchise has been been revived on the big screen. Rogue One focuses on the fabled mission hinted at in Star Wars: Episode IV — A  New Hope, i.e., a group of rebels who steal the plans to the Death Star that later end up in the hands of Princess Leia.

Warning: A 5 second video causing iPhones to Freeze (No Kidding!)

There have been reports coming in that iPhone users that play a certain 5 second video will cause the device to go into an endless loop, requiring the affected phone to be hard rebooted (Power Button and Home at the same time).

The video is corrupt, and appears to be generating a loop which causes iOS 10 to crash, according to The Verge, which tested the glitch on several iPhones running versions of iOS 10.1.x or the iOS 10.2 beta. The issue first came to light on Reddit.

Notably the crash takes about 10 seconds, during which people can do other things on their iPhone as the device gradually slows down. Once an iPhone freezes the only option is to reboot it, though it should work as normal once it recovers.

Apple has yet to announce a fix for the issue.

The company has had to deal with similar issues in the past, such as in 2015, when a text string sent through Messages was able to prevent people from reopening the app, or would crash an iPhone entirely.
