iOS 10: How to use the Handwriting Feature in Messages

The Messages app in iOS 10 has gotten a lot of new features to make sending and receiving texts more enjoyable.  One such feature allows the ability for the sender to "write out" their message instead of typing or dictating it.

How to write a message in iMessage for iOS:

  1. Open the iMessage app and send a new message.
  2. Tap the text entry box then rotate the phone to the horizontal position.
  3. Now, just write your message with your finger, or use a pre-written message on the bottom.
  4. When finished, tap DONE (upper-right corner of the screen).
  5. That's it!  The message is now sent to the other person.

Editor's Note: This tip may only work if the message sender and receiver has iOS 10 installed on their iPhone or iPad.

Returning Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 is getting harder as more shipping companies raise concerns

samsunglogoThere are 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 phones out there.  In retrieving the phones (after being found the device bursts into flames) is getting complicated.

Last Wednesday, FexEx, the United States Postal Service, and UPS all stated that the devices would not be allowed on their planes and there would also be tight restrictions on when their trucks would be allowed to carry the phones.

The U.S. Department of Transportation guidelines prohibit air shipments for any lithium battery recalls for safety reasons.

Shipping by ground is also complicated.

According to spokeswomen Rae Lyn Rushing, FedEx will only accept "new or used devices, but only from retail locations, and in packaging that meet strict regulatory regulations" and would not accept from "individual customers or through retailer outlets, including drop boxes."  FedEx took these steps to "ensure our priority and safety", Rushing said.

How to create folders in iOS

foldericonEditor's Note: Even though this tip may seem obvious to some, there are a lot of new iPhone users out there that may not be aware how to do the above.

When one gets a new iOS device (iPhone or iPad) the screen may seem overwhelming at first.  iOS has a way for you to organize those icons into "Folders" for you to better organize the screen and make it easier to use and find what you're looking for.

Here's how to make a folder in iOS:

  1. Choose an icon from the screen, press and hold it until it wiggles (animates).
  2. Drag the icon on top of another icon.
  3. The back of the two icons turn into the shape of a folder.
  4. Let the icon that you just dragged go.
  5. The device will come up with a suggested name for the folder.
  6. If you don't like the name, tap on the end of that name and delete it using the Backspace button.
  7. Name the folder what ever you want.
  8. Press the HOME button when done.
  9. That's it.
