Apple Watch Sales are down 55%

AppleWatch-2Apple Watch sales are down 55% since its debut in 2015 according to marketing firm IDC.

The watch went out of the gate with a backlog of orders and 3.6 million units were shipped in its first three months of its existence.  But now sales have fell to just 1.6 units last quarter, that's in spite of a discount from some retail outlets.

The company is set to have a new upgrade, WatchOS 3.0, set to debut this Fall.  Their are also rumors that their will be a new version of the watch either by the end of the year, or early in 2017.

Meanwhile, companies such as Samsung and LG have seen an uptick in their smartwatch sales in the latest quarter, although those growths come from the low-end models.

Ramon Llamas, IDC's research manager for wearables, forecasts the smartwatch market will return to growth next year as firms introduce new applications and cellphone-connected features.

Apple was relatively slow to introduce a smartwatch as other firms piled into the sector. But the Apple Watch grabbed a lion's share of the market immediately after its launch.

The Apple Watch was the company's first new product since Tim Cook took over as Apple's CEO in 2011 after Steve Jobs's died that same year.

H&I TV Network to air uncut episodes of Star Trek TV Shows starting July 24th

The Heroes & Icons Television Network will begin airing Star Trek starting July 24th.  The network will air uncut episodes of all of the Star Trek series with limited to no commercial interruptions, followed by special Star Trek programming for six (6) days a week.

While the original series' episodes have aired in syndication numerous times over the past 50 years, this event will set itself apart from previous re-runs because it will feature an insane amount of deleted scenes that have remained dormant in the world of TV purgatory.

Good bye Video Cassette Recorder, Been Nice Knowing ya

VHSTapeThe once dominant consumer device, the VCR, has seen its popularity fade over the years.  Now, the last company that makes the consumer device, Japan's Funai Electric, will cease making the device late in July.

Japan's Funai Electric started making the device in 1983, at one point selling over 15 million units a year.

Now fast forward to 2015, when Funai sold just 750,000 units, and also found it was getting harder to find the parts to make VCRs because of the popularity of CDs, DVDs, and the Internet.  People are also finding that a VCR Tape can only last about 20 years or so, whereas a CD or DVD can last around a 1,000 years.

The very first VCR (Video Cassette Recorder) was first created in the 1960s, but didn't gain popularity until the 70's when RCA and others brought more affordible models to market.
