Make your Mac Talk via the Terminal

I get often asked, "Name one thing that a Mac can do that Windows can't!"  Well, here's something....

Make the Mac actually talk to them by using its Text to Speech feature via the Terminal.  Here's how:

1.  Go into Finder > Applications > Utilities > Terminal.
2. At the prompt, type: say hello world.

You can make the computer say what ever you want.  Now can Windows do THAT????

Check How Long your Mac has been on via the Terminal

TerminalIconChecking how long your Mac has been on may not be something that one does everyday.  But it could come in handy when one's providing hardware troubleshooting.

To see the uptime:

1.  Go in to the TERMINAL (Finder > Applications > Utilities > Terminal).
2. At the prompt, type: uptime
3. You'll get the following output:

18:09  up 20 mins, 2 users, load averages: 1.02 1.20 1.15

Apple Confirms Music Deletion Glitch – Fix Coming Soon

iTunesLogo2016Apple has confirmed a glitch that has iTunes causing music from personal collections to be deleted.  This was confirmed only after web site The Loop contacted Apple for an official answer and statement.  In the statement, the company said:

“In an extremely small number of cases users have reported that music files saved on their computer were removed without their permission.  We’re taking these reports seriously as we know how important music is to our customers and our teams are focused on identifying the cause. We have not been able to reproduce this issue, however, we’re releasing an update to iTunes early next week which includes additional safeguards. If a user experiences this issue they should contact AppleCare.”
