iOS Night Shift – What IS it? How do I WORK it?

NightShiftControlCenter In the latest version of iOS, Apple has added a new feature what it calls Night Shift.

The feature causes the display to shift to a "warmer looking display" for evening viewing. A user can turn it on manually, or have the device turn it on and off for them at pre-determined times.

To enable it manually:

1. Go into Control Center (swipe UP from the bottom)
2. Tap on the icon shown above.

To enable it automatically and change the warmth settings:

1. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Night Shift.
2. Enable Night Shift mode.
3. Select the time when the option will be turned on and off.
4. Select the Color Temperature of the display.

PopPik is an iOS app for the iPhone and Apple Watch that allows a user to take a photo on their iPhone and have immedately available as a background image on your Apple Watch when you're in the Apple Watch app. It can serve as a default app when a user raises his/her wrist to check the time. The user can customize the background with any photo that's currently available in their photo library. Then, it allows one to have custom text at the bottom of the display, which is configured on the iPhone or other iOS devices.

The paid version offers an additional feature called ConnectAware. Which informs a user when he/she is out of range or gets disconnected from their iPhone.

PROS:

Ideal for those who want to customize their watch background in a hurry.
Easy to sync up with the Apple Watch.

CONS:

Confusing to set-up at first. Didn't know if the watch app could be set up on the device or I had to go on the iPhone device.
User has to read all on-screen set-up instructions before trying to customize the watch.

Bottom Line:

Nice app for those who want a custom background for their Apple Watch.
