How to: Update your iOS Device with the latest software enhancements

iOSLogoJudging by previous media events, Apple will be announcing the availability of its update for iOS 9.3 to the general public on Monday.

For new iOS owners, who may not know how to update their devices, its easy to do but can take time depending on what device(s) they own and how they choose to update it.  I will cover both ways so a user can pick what's best for them (and you).

Before starting, always be sure to make a backup of the device incase something goes wrong.

iTunes:

  1. Open iTunes as normal.
  2. Plug in the iOS device (or devices).
  3. Select the iOS device you wish to update.
  4. Towards the middle of the window should be a button that says "Check for Updates"
  5. iTunes will check for any updates and download/install them on to the device(s).

On the iOS Device:

  1. Plug in your iOS device into a wall outlet.
  2. Tap: Settings > General > Software update.
  3. The device will check for new updates and ask if you wish to update it now.

Whether you update the device(s) with iTunes or on the device itself, once you start the process, DO NOT INTERRUPT IT or you may end up "bricking" the device.
