Apple to start in-store iPhone 5C screen replacements starting 1/20

According to 9to5Mac.com, Apple will be replacing broken iPhone 5C screens in their stores starting next week:

"Apple has begun conducting iPhone 5c screen replacements in a small number of stores in the United States over the past couple of months, but the January 20th rollout will represent a full-scale launch in all of Apple’s retail regions aside from Hong Kong and Canada."

Currently, broken displays are not covered under AppleCare, so their may be a fee for the service.

Apple reaches agreement with FTC over In-App Purchases made by children

After negotiating with the FTC for months regarding the use of its in-app purchases in the App Store, Apple has reached a consent agreement with the FTC, according to a company-wide email Tim Cook just sent employees.

Apple’s in-app purchases practices have frustrated regulators since debuting in the App Store back in 2009. In his letter to employees obtained by Re/code, Tim Cook says a host of complaints from customers led Apple to investigate its practices. Last year Apple emailed 28 million App Store customers regarding their in-app purchases and subsequently refunded more than 37,000 in-app purchases that parents claim were unauthorized.

Tim Cook says that “it doesn’t feel right for the FTC to sue over a case that had already been settled. To us, it smacked of double jeopardy,” but the FTC’s deal isn’t going to require Apple to do anything extra, so they decided to sign it and move on.

Yes, we are still here and are looking for relevant topics to post on this web site. Hopefully, with CES almost over, we can get back to our normal routine of reporting all things Apple. :-)

Why we choose not to cover this week's CES

Since 2006, AppleScoop.com has been covering all things Apple, Inc. including 3rd party companies. We have also been covering the yearly Consumer Electronics Show (CES) when it came to Apple hardware and software.

But when it came time to decide on if we were going to cover it this year, we decided to skip all of the hoop-la. We also knew that Apple itself wouldn't have anything to display at the show. Finally, we also knew that our readers would get "CES overload" by mid week, so we wanted to give them somewhere that they could come and get away from all of the CES news and events.

But that doesn't mean that we aren't monitoring the show :-)
