Industry watchers are chalking up the possibility that Microsoft could swoop in and purchase Barnes and Noble's failing Nook unit during which time when the company is dealing with the sudden departure of its long time CEO, William Lynch.
Last year, Microsoft invested $300 million into Barnes & Noble's Nook business. At the time it was believed the investment could pave the way for a new spin-off company.
When pressed for comment about a CEO replacement, Barnes and Noble stated that it does not plan on naming a new one anytime soon as it tries to restructure the company.
As Apple approaches its 5 year birthday with its iOS app store, the company has taken its most popular apps and made them free for a limited time.

As expected, the FCC has officially given the green light to the Softbank purchase of Sprint and the corresponding Sprint purchase of ClearWire. The statement from acting FCC chairwoman Mignon Clyburn said that the deal serves the public interest and will "accelerate the deployment of mobile broadband services and enhance competition."
