The (all-new) Mac Pro – An in-depth look

MacPro2013JPGYesterday, Apple announced the all-new Mac Pro which is scheduled to come out "Later This Year".  During my overview of the Keynote, I touched on the announcement, but didn't really give any specs.  This article will take care of that :-)

Once again, Apple shocked the computer world by introducing (previewing) its next generation Mac Pro.  Taking the normal design, and shrinking it into a "tube-like" piece of hardware really makes the computer.  They did the impossible yet again.  By seeing the below specs, I think you'll agree:

General overview:

* PCI Express-based flash storage (up to 40GB per second)
* Thunderbolt 2
* Latest Generation Xeon Processors
* Support for 4K video
* Ultra-fast memory
* Up to 12 Core Processing Power
* 2x faster then the current Mac Pro

Every component of the new Mac Pro is optimized for performance, including:

MEMORY (RAM):

* Four-channel DDR-3 Memory Controller running at 1866MHz.
* Up to 60GB MHz Per Second Memory Bandwidth.
* ECC Memory, meaning the computer will render jobs quicker and without transient memory errors.

VIDEO:

* State of the art AMD Firepro-workstation class GPU with up to 6GB dedicated VRAM
* Connect up to three high-resolution 4K monitors.
