AppleScoop Looking for iOS or Mac Apps to Review

AppleScoopLogoAre you an app developer who's looking for ways to get your app seen by millions of Mac and/or iOS users?

If so, AppleScoop.com wants to help.

Each week, we'd like to write up a honest review of available apps for the Mac and/or iOS.  We will download the app, use it, and then write a no-holds-barred review on it.  If the app sucks, you'll know it.  If it's an awesome app, you'll know it.

We will review apps, one at a time, in the order in which they were received.  Our reviews will be posted each week, at random times.

So, how do you submit an app for consideration?

Send an email to applescoop1@gmail.com with the URL of the app, the name, and a brief description of it.  We will download and take a look at the app as soon as possible.

We would like to write our first review on Monday, June 10th.  So get those URLs in now!

How to: Have iOS's Calendar Remind you of a Important Appointment or Event

iOSLogoAs you know, you're busy all the time and may loose track of what time it is.  Normally, that isn't an issue, but what if you have an important meeting you have to get to.  Make your iOS device remind you of that appointment via its Calendar app.

Just do the following:

1.  Launch the Calendar app.

2.  Tap on the date when you'd like a reminder.

3.  Tap the plus [+] button.

4.  Enter a title for the reminder (Example: Meet with Boss).

5.  Enter a location of the meeting if necessary.

6.  Tap the START TIME field and enter the time when the meeting begins.

7.  Now, go to the next field and enter a time when the meeting is supposed to end.

8.  Tap "DONE".

9.  For the calendar to remind you of the meeting, select the "Alert" option.

10.  You'll get a list of options as to when you'd like to be reminded.

11.  Tap "DONE".

12.  You can have TWO reminders set to remind you of an appointment.

13.  When you're finished with that area, tap "DONE" twice.

14.  The iOS device will now remind you of the event.

Chicago Sun-Times Firing all Photographers, Training Reporters to Take Photos with iPhones (no, really)

iPhone CameraThe Chicago Sun-Times, one of the oldest daily newspapers in America, fired its entire pool of 28 photographers on Friday, and plans to source future graphics from reporters who will be trained to capture print-worthy images with their iPhones.

First reported by former Sun-Times columnist Robert Feder on Facebook (via Cult of Mac), the publication plans to give reporters mandatory training in "iPhone photography basics" as a replacement for the outgoing photographers. One of the fired photographers is Pulitzer Prize winner John H. White.

With smartphones, or camera-toting feature phones, being nearly ubiquitous, an increasing number of news outlets are turning to the pubic for immediate "on the scene" shots. For example, when a tornado ripped through Moore, Okla. on May 20, initial news coverage relied on photos from residents and storm chasersposting images to various social media sites.
